Misc. Comments

Though Grove Music lists only 4, 8, or 12 voices for Victoria's Magnificats, the verses of the 4-voice Magnificats differ in their voicing, so to sing 3 verses of one Magnificat could, for example, require 2 sopranos, alto, 2 tenors, and bass, although no more than 4 are singing at a time.

Grove Music can only record so much information before it becomes unwieldy. The general disposition of these 16 Magnificat settings is for four voices in the great majority of verses; in some intermediate verses the scoring is reduced to three voices, or occasionally augmented to five; and most final verses are usually augmented to five or even six voices. Hence the tables below.
