Notes on attribution:

  • Brular is identified as Vincent Bruslard by BnF. Robertson (2009) identifies two other composers working in the Violons de la Chambre; Louis and Jacques. This seems more likely.
  • Delahaye ; la Haye ; Lahaey has been identified by Robertson (2009) as Jean Crestot. 'La Haye' was associated with a family of Parisian musicians in the 17th century. His marriage contract refers to him as 'Jean Crestot, dit La Haye, maître joueur d'instruments, et violon ordinaire de la chambre du roi.' His father, Claude, held the same title but is unlikely to appear in collections of music from the 1650's and 60's.
  • According to Robertson, G.D. was most likely to have been someone well known to the copyists at the court in Kassel. He attributes the dances to Gerhard Dießener, a court musician from Kassel who spent time in Paris in 1660 and precured a great deal of dance music there.
