The violin part(s) is in 1st to 3rd position. First to third positions. However, just before the end of the exposition of the second sonata there is a 7th pos passage, which may be put down an octave if necessary. The first sonata especially gives practice in second position.

Misc. Comments

When announced in Hofmeister's Monatsberichte the work was mis-identified as Op.42 (Hofmeister's Monatsbericht (1860), p.64). This was corrected to Op.41 in the 1860 Verzeichniss and the 1868 Handbuch.
