  • After doing some research, it is not clear at all whether this is really an arrangement, despite the fact that the title page says "Written by W.D. [William Davis] Gallagher . . . Arranged by W.C. Peters". Gallagher was a poet, and there is no evidence so far that he set any of his poems to music, or in fact wrote any music at all. It is possible that this is an "arrangement" only in the sense that Peters used Gallagher's poetry, not that he used any pre-existing music written by Gallagher. If Peters used a pre-existing melody, he did not say what it was. There is an example (Sweet memories of thee) where he used someone else's melody for a song, but in that case, he did reference both the composer and title of the original.
  • Interestingly, 3 of the web searches brought up the same poem, but under the title "Sixty Years Ago", with the lines within the text changed accordingly. The original volume of poetry was not cited in any of the searches, so it is not yet known which is Gallagher's original title. Anyone wishing to research this further should research under the incipit, not the title.
