This “urtext” or “scholarly” (scientific) edition was published at least 25 years ago in Germany and thus is public domain in its country of origin. Such editions are also public domain in Canada because they fail to meet the minimum ‘threshold of originality’ to qualify for copyright as an ‘adaptation’. It may not be public domain elsewhere, however. More information about this can be found here.

Misc. Notes scan: score scanned at 600dpi (High Quality Scanning) This fragment it seems -is- the complete work; the "Complete work" above in other scans contains material no longer believed to be by Mozart. NMA (relevant sections of series 9 and the undigitized series 10 - 2 variations in the former, 8 variations in the latter rather as an Anhang, I think) seems to cover this- will have to have a look at the printed copy at the library...

Misc. Comments

Mozart's authorship of this work is uncertain Mozartforum (unsigned comment from P.Davydov, 25 Dec 2010)

This seems to be true- see NMAfs/rpt - Listed under fragments in NMA-report. Series X, supplement, contains 8 variations- perhaps these are the dubious ones, while the 2 variations in the main portion are the two that Mozart is believed to have written? Because the "Acht Variationen" is now in the appendix, while the work in the main section is now "2 Variations". ... Curiouser and curiouser... - Schissel
