Extra Information A piece commenced in 2013 and left unfinished, before taking it up again in November 2014 along the lines of the same composer's Nocturnals : his first intent was to add it to that set, however the present subtitle points to the beginning of the day rather than its close, so it is issued separately.
The two variations for viola and cello added in 2016 are not literal quotations of the original violin piece but attempt to prolong its elegiacal mood in diverse (as opposed to repetitious) ways. The viola piece is a special case meant to complement in a less 'technical' fashion the composer's viola sonate-caprice (as seen from the dedicatee's side). The said dedicatee being an excellent poetry narrator, a poem (in French) meant to be recited at the outset and also written by the composer precedes the music.
