Although described on the title-page as the eighth edition, the Apollo's Banquet, Newly Reviv'd has substantial differences from Apollo's Banquet to be considered as a new work independently. Playford admits this in the preface: "...the following Book retains nothing almost that belong'd to the former Impressions except the Title...".
