General Information

Work Title Bonjour mon coeur
Alternative Title Bon jour mon coeur; Christ est mon Dieu
Composer Lassus, Orlande de
First Publication RISM 1564c
Librettist Pierre de Ronsard (1524–1585)
Language French
Piece Style Renaissance
Instrumentation SATB voices

Misc. Comments

  • From RISM possibly LV 167.
  • "Christ est mon Dieu" is not a translation of the original text, it is the same melody set to a religious text of a different origin (not Ronsard). It is unclear whether this was done by Lassus or someone else, but it became a very popular tune in both forms, and there are several settings of both.
