History

Charles F. Tretbar (1832-1909) from Braunschweig (Brunswick), Germany came to the United States in 1852 and was a concert promoter at Steinway & Sons from about 1860 to 1900.

Tretbar published music in New York and also in Baden-Baden, where he died.

Tretbar's wife was the well-known translator Helen D. Tretbar (1835-1902).
