The third of four cantatas (1769, 1770, 1775, 1781) written to commemorate the liquefaction of the blood of Saint Januarius (the patron saint of Naples). All of these works follow an unusual pattern of alternating Italian and Latin recitatives.
In addition, this specific cantata does not have allegorical roles like the others (the soloists are unnamed). The 11th movement has dual Italian/Latin text.
