- A conundrum with the one work so far associated with this person. The Library of Congress scan of her Montville Polka has Lucy A. Ayer for her name, and so this should be her category name, under usual circumstances. However, two different 1857 sources scanned in by Google Books agree that her surname was Thayer, and while there is no other information about Lucy A. Thayer, there is no information at all about Lucy A. Ayer- not even information (beyond the title page of the score) connecting her with the work. One or the other is a typo, but there's two of one... not that that is in any way conclusive. One keeps looking (and sometimes one finds.)
