Biographical information about Ernesto Centola

Ernesto Centola was born in 1862 in Salerno (South of Italy). He organised the bow-instrument section of the Corfu Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1887 he moved to Berlin in order to study violin with Joseph Joachim and composition with Rudorff; then he traveled to Istanbul, where he directed the Robert College of Music. In 1914 he returned to Naples. Among his compositions (all of them in a traditional romantic style) there are pieces for violin and piano, string quartets, orchestral works, etudes and technical exercises.
