Category talk:Haupt, Carl August

Two works by Aug. Haupt in a Album for Organists compiled and edited (registration, etc.) by Eugene Thayer for Ditson in 1876. One is the fugue in C mentioned by Wikipedia. If this is at LoC then I haven't found it yet, have to look more closely...

under Haupt there (at LoC, scanned in) is the other work mentioned on the cover of another work in the Album, the 2 Canons on a Choral Theme. However, this is not among the surviving works mentioned by Wikipedia. So while the fugue is probably Carl August Haupt, is the canons possibly by a different August Haupt, perhaps a relative? Or of course Wikipedia's source (two German-language sources- de-Wikipedia and ADB) may be mistaken, too. Not being sarcastic and suggesting it's definitely one or the other, and the answer could in fact be "both" (that Carl August wrote more works but that this one isn't one of them and is by another composer of a similar name, I mean- something that of course always needs to be watched for...)
