Section Listing

  1. Chorus: Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben. An animated, but solemn opening chorale arrangement. Free imitation abounds in a buoyant matter. C Major
  2. Recitative (Bass): So muss es sein! Secco recitative. C Major
  3. Aria (Soprano): Mein Gott, ich liebe dich von Herzen. Oboes in plaintive parallel thirds set the tone of this ardent movement. a minor
  4. Recitative (Tenor): Gib mir dabei, mein Gott! ein Samariterherz. Recitative with string accompaniment. e minor-G Major
  5. Aria (Alto): Ach, es bleibt in meiner Liebe. The trumpet is an outsider here, however it lends the movement a distinctive colour; it is surprising to hear how plaintive a trumpet can sound, even without valves and vibrato. d minor
  6. Chorale: Herr, durch den Glauben wohn in mir. A plain chorale setting. The words appear to have been lost, but the melody was Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh darein, and the incipit survives. g minor-D Major
