Misc. Comments

I received a call from the president of C.F. Peters who asked me to write a work for double bass and percussion which they would publish, thinking that there was little if any repertoire for this combination. Of course he neglected to consider the haulage problem, that is, moving the large double bass and a battery of percussion to a concert site, which might easily swamp gate receipts. I solved the problem (somewhat) by limiting my percussion to xylophone only, and as you can imagine, this piece has become all the rage for this peculiar combination. All that having been said, it is a fun work that does indeed get performed, the dark quality of the double bass and sprightly xylophone producing interesting new combinations. There is even a bit of room for improvisation in the piece.
