Sitsky [Busoni and the Piano (2008, 2nd edition), p. 274] refers to this as an edition, although Busoni made some changes: a few bars were cut from the introduction and a coda was added that brings back the first Ecossaise. The rest of the text is essentially the same. Busoni's editing attempts to give a different character to each episode and varies each refrain. "...a true example of Busoni editing on its most successful level."
