General Information

Work Title Extremum Dei judicium
Alternative Title Audite coeli quae loquor. Histoire sacrée, for 6? voices, 2 treble instruments, 2 trumpets and continuo
Composer Charpentier, Marc-Antoine
Opus/Catalogue Number H.401
Language Latin
Average Duration 24 minutes
Piece Style Baroque
Instrumentation 9 voices, mixed chorus (SATB) + 2 trumpets, strings (2 treble instruments), continuo

Misc. Comments

6 voices from the description of a recording of the entire work (conducted by Corboz, recorded on Erato). His histoires sacrées (a genre of which he wrote 13; not sure if "sacred oratorio" is exactly the right tag) require a narrator (historicus), use recitatif, ensemble, chorus and orchestra. According to James R. Anthony (French Baroque Music: From Beaujoyeulx to Rameau, from which the above information is taken), of the 13 historia only Judicium Salomonis may be dated (it was performed in 1702). - Schissel
