The traditional folk tune is played in Luxembourg (and southern Belgium) while the local brass bands walk through the streets of the village (along with sheep, hence the name) to invite people to the local parish fair (Kiirmes).
In the 19th century Michel Lentz, the author of the Luxembourgish national anthem, wrote a text entitled "Schuebermëss" (i.e. the big fun fair of Luxembourg City) to this melody.
