Misc. Comments
For the 11th Sunday after Trinity.
Section Listing
- [Chorale]: Herr Jesu Christ, du höchstes Gut. The sustained appogiaturas of this movement give it a plaintive character, especially combined with the sounds of oboe d'amore. b minor
- [Chorale] (Alto): Erbarm dich mein in solcher Last. The alto sings the chorale line unadorned while all of the violins play an independent line in scalar motion. f♯ minor
- Aria (Bass): Fürwahr, wenn mir das kömmet ein. The running trills of this movement give it a "running" character, as does the flowing 12/8 meter. A Major
- Recitativo (Bass): Jedoch dein heilsam Wort. The chorale is sung plain by the bass, interspersed with recitative. e minor
- Aria (Tenor): Jesus nimmt die Sünder an. A gentle aria for flute and tenor. The meter here is never quite stable, shifting between 4/4 and 3/2. D Major
- Recitativo (Tenor): Der Heiland nimmt die Sünder an. Recitative with string accompaniment. G Major-e minor
- Aria (Soprano, Alto): AchHerr, mein Gott, vergib mirs doch. A duet with only continuo accompaniment. The urgent character of this duet is provided by the continuous semiquavers in the voices and their canonic imitation. e minor
- Choral: Stärk mich mit deinem Freudengeist. A plain chorale setting. b minor
