Misc. Comments

In Memoriam: John F. Kennedy was commissioned by the Boston Symphony as a tribute to the late fallen president. It was a labor of love for me, as I admired Kennedy greatly and was deeply moved at his loss. It is written for narrator and orchestra, and uses eulogies and memories of him as both man and leader as well as quoting extensively from his own texts. It is quite personal and derives perhaps more from my own sense of personal loss than an “abstract” tribute (as Copland’s Lincoln Portrait). There seemed to be a psychological “turning point of time” for so many Americans when this light of youth and hope was extinguished, never to be relit in the same way again.
