Musical Antiquarian Society

History

This society was purely dedicated to the "publication of scarce and valuable works by early English composers," a goal in which they succeeded admirably. In the brief span of 1840-50, the society published a large amount of music by Purcell, Byrd, Wilbye, Morley, Weelkes, Dowland, and others, published by William Chappell. The society itself lasted from 1840-1847
