Misc. Comments

  • Grove Music describes the "violetta" as "a word used at various times to mean viol, violin, viola or violoncello". RISM has several entries for this work, using either the generic "strings" (there is a "Violoncelli Soli" part in the basso (note the plural)), or "viola", probably because the clefs of the top parts start in alto clef. However, in b.48, these top string parts switch to bass clef. Accordingly, this is tagged for generic strings, and users can decide for themselves what instruments will be best to use.
  • The vocal parts, like the basso part, have "solo" and "tutti" sections, thus requiring a mixed chorus.
