Winner of the 1905 Cobbett prize. June 9 1906 Musical News notes that the winners of that competition - by Hurlstone, Frank Bridge and Haydn Wood - have by that date already been published by Novello. (So first publication date not later than 1906 at any rate.) According to the same article, Hurlstone's quartet was performed at the prize ceremony a few weeks before his death.
