In 1811 the concerto was published in part (a 57-bar excerpt) in a St. Petersburg journal, so while Field may have continued to revised the work even then, one may say - as Piggott ("The Life and Music of John Field, 1782-1837, Creator of the Nocturne", p.153) deduces from this - one may give this as an upward bound for the composition date of the work, more or less...

Piggott gives publication date for concertos 1-4 as 1816.
