Extra Information In his trilingual Introduction (removed), the editor informs us his first edition is based on the only surviving copy of the manuscript, conserved in the British Museum with the inscription "Quartetto di me Giov. Nep. Hummel di Vienna" and at the end "Laus Deo - Sept 808". He draws our attention to the unusual metrical complexity of the second movement, intended, he avers, as a musical joke.
