At the end of the manuscript score Georg Gerson describes the circumstances around the piece. It was composed for an Italian tenor singer, Giovanni Piantanida (Gaetano Piantanida 1768-1836) visiting Copenhagen 1813 for a concert at Giovanni Simone Mayr. This aria was most likely written by Girolamo Crescentini (1762-1846) as an addition to Mayr's opera Alonso e Cora. Gerson used a motive from the aria in the music to follow, the present recitativo and aria with text by Stefano Vestris taken from a cantata, Diana e Endimione by Ferdinando Paër. In the end the concert was dropped and the planned composition was not completed. Instead Gerson wrote a sketch to a short coda to be used for a stand alone performance of the recitativo and aria..
