Publication History

• Violin Romance, Op. 26 (1881; Kristiania, 30 October 1881)
• Dedicated to Halvard Emil Heyerdahl. First performance :1881-10-30 (Vioin: Stanislaus Barcewicz and Conductor : J.Svendsen)
• In autumn 1881 Johan Severin Svendsen was invited by his publisher to compose a romance – and completed it in two days. Little did he imagine that it would become his most popular work altogether. The piece appeared in almost seventy printed editions in his lifetime. Today it is among the most popular works in the romantic repertoire.
• Johan Svendsen's Romanze for Violin and Orchestra Opus 26 is transcribed for Violin and Piano by the composer.
