Historical Publication Info
Founded in 1826 by Julius Ferdinand Georg Schuberth (1804-1875) in Hamburg. Branch offices were opened in Leipzig (1832) and New York (1850). Julius left the Hamburg office in charge of his brother Friedrich (Fritz) in 1854, devoting his energies to the activities of the Leipzig and New York branches. The firm continued to operate under the control of his brother and widow until sold to F. Siegel in 1891. Some publishing activity was continued after this date by Fritz Schuberth Jr. in Hamburg, as well as in New York. The New York branch was re-named Edward Schuberth & Co. sometime around 1875 and started issuing its own series of publications independently, with plate numbers preceded by "E. S. & Co.".
