URTEXT EDITION
This "urtext" or "scholarly" (scientific) edition was published at least 25 years ago in the EU (or 20 years ago in Italy, before 1992 in the former USSR). Hence, the edition is public domain in its country of origin or a government publication. Such editions are also public domain in Canada because they fail to meet the minimum 'threshold of originality' to qualify for copyright as an 'adaptation'. They may not be public domain elsewhere. More information about this can be found here.

Misc. Comments

  • In the final movement Shebalin is using the main theme from the first movement of Taneyev's String Quartet No.6

Worldcat (which does find this (as of 2011), among other works by Shebalin, in new editions or reprints by the French publisher le Chant du Monde- publications, not recordings, despite the similarity of name of the publisher to a well-known recording label; they are also putting out new Myaskovsky reprints-or-editions lately...) , finds no publications of quartet #4 (that I can find?...) earlier than 1961. However!..., a search at Old.rsl.ru finds several versions of
