Navigation etc.

A note on Beethoven quartets editions (parts) for amateurs.
For practical use we need monochrome images with rehearsal letters and well-placed page turns. Bowings and fingerings are a matter of personal preference. All editions since Schott’s of 1867 meet these criteria. The Schott ed is rather crowded, while Peters (1872, ed Moser and Joachim 1895) Breitkopf (1886 ed Rontgen, New ed 1890) are very practical. Gory’s typeset is very legible, but spreads over many pages, with inconvenient page turns. Thus it best suited for use on a tablet computer. None of the 19th century editions have bar/measure numbers, which are standard in 20th century editions.
