Misc. Comments

Dibble (Charles Villiers Stanford: man and musician) mentions the two string quintets, no.1 in F and no.2 in C minor Op.86, neither bearing any dedication but "intended for Joachim", @ p.478 (worklist) & p.350 at greater length. Op.86 was also sent for publication but neither Houghton nor anyone else ever published it (as of this writing no one ever has, though that might change.) (The 2nd quintet was completed later in 1903 and premiered in Berlin 30 March 1904.)

So far there has been one recording of the string quintet no.1, on Hyperion Records. (The 2005 Hyperion notes linked to, by Dibble, basically quote the p.350 section of his own book referred to.)
