Both the Sonatinas here are presented as for Flute and Piano. In fact, the pieces were written for oboist Alfred Pollock whilst Walmisley was working as an organist at Cambridge University in 1847. They can sucessfully be performed on the oboe, flute and Pollock even performed one of them, though it is unclear which, on the cor anglais.
