Misc. Comments
This is from a collection of pieces originally written for treble and tenor recorders, which explains the limited range of the 'cello parts. It is from a collection of 7 pieces called 'Ludi Musici' after Samuel Scheidt who published four books of pieces with that title, (sadly only one has survived to posterity). Most of Scheidt's pieces are based on pre-existing material, such as ballad tunes, like the 7 pieces of this Ludi Musici. The original Cuckoo is a rather sad Somerset folksong.
The recorder, violin and lute versions are also published here.
