  • A Christmas carol of Irish origin, possibly dating back as far as the 12th century. The present score is a setting of the tune for the Scottish Highland Bagpipe. The setting was developed primarily from the playing of Laura MacKenzie, from her CD Yuletide Bagpipes. Further inspiration for this setting came from the singing of Alison Krauss. Note that the Cs in this tune are "C-natural", which is considered an accidental on the the highland bagpipe. C-natural is played with the "A" finger of the right hand up, and the "B" finger down, instead of the other way around. See Bagpipe fingering for details. JNS 3/9/12
