Notes

  • Part 1: When I discovered the musical richness of Post Bop Jazz piano (Thanks to Bill Evans, Monty Alexander, Kenny Barron and many others) I found that a very rich harmony could lie behind Jazz Licks leading to interesting developments. At that moment came the idea of writing several short solos based on jazz licks and to present them in different keys thus the name “the harmonic garden”. The purpose of this collection is to provide examples of how a simple jazz lick can be developed into a beautiful musical short piece. I encourage the player to improvise and create his own solos.
  • Part 2: This is the second part of my Harmonic Garden, a collection of short piano solos based on Jazz licks . The purpose of this collection is to provide examples of how a simple jazz lick can be developed into a beautiful musical short piece. This part is more focused on Blues licks from traditional to modern ones. To produce the typical “blues” feeling, it is critical to take care of the articulation signs. At the end I have added a long solo to give an example of how jazz licks can be combined and developed to produce a large musical piece. I encourage the player to improvise and create his own solos.
