Misc. Comments

  • Wikipedia gives the date of composition as 1904 ; Max-Reger-Institut and Naxos' notes to their recording give 1907. As premiere was set for 1906 but needed postponing, one might conjecture that revision was undertaken at that point and composition date is at least more like 1904 to 1907... there may be better information (though at least here there is some information besides publication date alone.) (Also from Naxos' notes: "The theme itself is taken from the stage-work Der Aernotekranz of the later eighteenth century composer and writer Johann Adam Hiller.")
