Misc. Comments
From Hine's posthumous publication, Harmonia Sacra Glocestriensis, or Select Anthems for 1,2 & 3 Voices and A Te-Deum and Jubilate Together with A Voluntary for the Organ, composed by William Hine, late Organist of the Cathedral Church at Glocester.
Born at Brightwell, Oxfordshire, in 1687, Hine had been a chorister and lay clerk at Magdelen College, Oxford, whence he was dismissed 'prompter fornicationem, manifestam, et scandolasam'. He later went to London to study with Jeremiah Clarke. Unlike his two predecessors ar Gloucester, and despite his somewhat early blemished reputation, Hine was a success with the Dean and Chapter, who voluntarily raised his stipend in appreciation of his personal and musical qualities (according to his memorial). He died 28 August 1730.
