According to Grove, Alard rescued "many older pieces from oblivion" but was "faithful to the originals, merely adding an unpretentious realization of the figured bass." It is therefore unclear whether the viola version was by the composer or not. Also, Grove lists most of Nardini's violin works as "vn, b" or "vn b (hpd/vc)" so without seeing the original of this specific sonata, it is impossible to tell whether a full continuo was intended.
