The 1673 Bologna edition of Giovanni Maria Bononcini's "Il Musico Prattico", a textbook on basic composition techniques, opens with the score of a canon dedicated to Bononcini, and composed by his teacher and friend Padre Agostino Bendinelli (1635-1703?). The text of the canon can be translated as follows: "You, who wish to compose well, read Bononcini".
