Welcome Page
Free public domain sheet music from IMSLP / Petrucci Music Library
This is a work-in-progress page. Feel free to add what you feel should be here (actually I would love it if someone would look over what I wrote here and suggest improvements and/or edit it) :) The end goal of this page is to be linked to from the Main Page (a "more..." link at the bottom of the Introduction box).
Welcome to the International Music Score Library Project! IMSLP attempts to create a virtual library containing all public domain musical scores, as well as scores from composers who are willing to share their music with the world without charge. You can read the full list of goals that IMSLP will try to achieve.
IMSLP also encourages the exchange of musical ideas, both in the form of musical works, and in the analysis of existing ones. Therefore, feel free to create/edit a page with your analysis of a particular piece (please use the "Discussion" link on the work page of that particular piece).
Also, don't forget to rate scans/typesets that you have downloaded and looked at! IMSLP currently has only 11610 ratings submitted; plenty more are needed!
Remember not to be intimidated by the size or learning curve of IMSLP. Always feel free to just browse; no one is obligated, by any means, to contribute! Please enjoy the offerings set before you, and never hesitate to ask questions!
To Professors
Do you find yourself giving students thick handouts of scores for homework purposes? Or maybe the course requires students to buy expensive scores? There may be a better way of doing it!
IMSLP is very willing to help you scan and upload the scores to our library, as long as it is in the public domain :) Don't know how to convert scanned images to a PDF file? No problem! Just post on the forums, and someone will gladly give instructions, or convert them for you. (Footnote: however, remember to always scan a score in monochrome, and with at least 300dpi if not 600)
