Wilhelm Gebauer founded his Musik und Theaterverlag in Leipzig in 1919. Later managers were his wife Adelheid Gebauer and granddaughter Evelyn Feix (nee Lohse). It bought C.A. Klemm of Leipzig in 1933, and moved to Wiesbaden after 1945.
Wilhelm Gebauer's most famous property is the Hofbräuhaus-Lied, In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus composed by Wilhelm „Wiga“ Gabriel (1897–1964) from Berlin in 1935.
