:Hi,
:The file is blocked because it is under copyright in the US and the EU (in addition to Russia, for that matter). Because the corporate entity that owns IMSLP is located in the US, we have to be careful about US law as well as Canadian law (the site is located in Canada, where the file is in the public domain), which is why no one can download the file at the moment. It will be unblocked in another 12 years or so, when it falls out of copyright in the US. Cheers, KGill <small>talk email</small> 20:19, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

But Tchaikovsky died 118 years ago and Walter Niemann's (died in 1953) works are in public domain too. Why?
:Niemann died less than 70 years ago, so he is still under copyright in the EU (and Russia), though not in Canada. This particular arrangement was published in 1927, so it will be under copyright in the US until 1 January 2023 (95 years from publication, the standard rule for things copyrighted between 1923 and 1977). You may also wish to read this page for more information on copyright law as it applies to IMSLP. Dear Stanshevskiy,

is there any possibility of obtaining scans of the three large-format pages showing the design of the archicembalo from Vicentino’s L’antica musica? These appear to be the only omissions from the files you’ve uploaded, but they are a significant one. I realise that these aren’t exactly easy to scan (in the facsimile copy of the book which I have access to they are rather large fold-out pages).

Cheers, Philip @ © talk 07:46, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

I can try to scan this with my little scanner if it's necessary. But I recommend this simple link:

:That’s quite a nice one of the lower manual of the keyboard (and all of the folds in the original are evident!), however there’s two more: one for the upper manual, and one showing the board layout for strings and jacks; these all appear at the start of book 4, if I recall correctly. Do you know of a source for those? But Tchaikovsky died 118 years ago and Walter Niemann's (died in 1953) works are in public domain too. Why?
:Niemann died less than 70 years ago, so he is still under copyright in the EU (and Russia), though not in Canada. This particular arrangement was published in 1927, so it will be under copyright in the US until 1 January 2023 (95 years from publication, the standard rule for things copyrighted between 1923 and 1977).

:Hi,
:The file is blocked because it is under copyright in the US and the EU (in addition to Russia, for that matter).

Cheers, KGill <small>talk email</small> 21:01, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

:Hi,
:The file is blocked because it is under copyright in the US and the EU (in addition to Russia, for that matter).

Why?
