There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. This branch's music has more complex construction than the others. 
Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China through Korea to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. 
Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. 
After that, in Meiji period(1868-1912), Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The music would be arranged at that time. 
The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet. 
In Edo period (1603-1868), playing music as professional player was allowed for blind man only. 
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. The pitch for shrine's ritual here is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for Chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. This branch's music has more complex construction than the others. 
Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China through Korea to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. 
Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. 
After that, in Meiji period(1868-1912), Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The music would be arranged at that time. 
The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet. 
In Edo period (1603-1868), playing music as professional player was allowed for blind man only. 
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. The pitch for shrine's ritual here is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for Chinese, higher one for Korean.

Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China through Korea to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. 
Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. 
After that, in Meiji period(1868-1912), Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The music would be arranged at that time. 
The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet. 
In Edo period (1603-1868), playing music as professional player was allowed for blind man only. 
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. The pitch for shrine's ritual here is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for Chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. 
Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. 
Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. 
After that, in Meiji period(1868-1912), Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The music would be arranged at that time. 
The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet. 
In Edo period (1603-1868), playing music as professional player was allowed for blind man only. 
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. The pitch for shrine's ritual here is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. After that, in Meiji period, Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet.
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. Such flute is untuned. This music can be played better in a whole upper key, D lydian. The pitch is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. After that, in Meiji period, Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet.
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. Such flute is untuned. This music can be played better in a whole upper key, D lydian. The pitch is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. After that, in Meiji period, Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet.
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. Such flute is untuned. This music can be played better in a whole upper key, D lydian. The pitch is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for chinese, higher one for Korean.

There are many styles of lion dance belonged to Shinto which is japanese reliegion. This one is one of them called Mida branch. Lion dance was imported with Buddhism from China to Japan in 612. It was used for magic ritual to the plague in early period. Between 1750-1865, late Edo period, the economical situation became better and farmers were rich. They managed their local shrine to get more money. Then, there became the center of the local culture. This music would be arranged or composed in the period. After that, in Meiji period, Japan set Shinto as state religion, then the lion dance was given to near villages around the bigger shrine. The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older ones without any music sheet.
The flute used in this music has 7 tone holes for fingers like european baroque flute. But the lowest note is C and 7th hole is used for D. Such flute is untuned. This music can be played better in a whole upper key, D lydian. The pitch is around 392hz. Lower pitch is used for japanese native music in Japanese Gagaku. Middle one for chinese, higher one for Korean.

The original score doesn't exist. People has learned it with seeing, listening and teaching directly from older one.
The flute used in this music, which has 7 tone holes for finger like european baroque flute. But this music demands D to the 7th hole. For that, the flute can be played in only some keys.
