*Re Johann Baptist Rousseau - is it certain we are speaking of Johann Baptist Rousseau here (1802-67) and not e.g. Jean-Baptist Rousseau (17th century, French poet, in translation) or another?
Only excerpted in Hyperion's 6-volume set of Brahms' complete songs/lieder/etc., but consider that cpo's competing set of Brahms' complete vocal music with piano is taking much more than 6 CDs, so just perhaps Hyperion's set is also quite done... (Op.6 appear on volume 1 of the cpo set. Looking at the booklet of this edition at the Naxos Music Library, the text of Op.6 no.2's author is given as Jean-Baptiste Rousseau but that's not optimally helpful... ("Researching the Song: A Lexicon", in their entry for "Rousseau, Jean-Baptiste, 1670-1741, lists Desmarets and Brahms among composers who set texts by this composer- not Johann Baptist Rousseau (1802-1867). What we need, I suppose, is to find the original French version in Rousseau's work of the text Brahms set, or likewise amongst Johann Baptist Rousseau's output, assuming the latter didn't write it to order and that it was a work already published.) - ES
