Eduard Herrmann studied violin at the Stuttgart conservatoire from 1861-8, then in Berlin 1869-70 (vl Joachin composition Kiel). He was a concertmaster at various locations in Germany and also St. Petersburg 1871-81. In 1881 he emigrated to New York, where he formed a string quartet with Lilienthal, Hauser and Schenck.

His similarly named contemporary Th. Herrmann wrote at least 100 Opus numbers, all for 1st position violin, published 1880-1895 by Schott (Brussels), Bertram and A.P. Schmidt. (source; SBB catalog)
