Section Listing

  1. Aria (Alto): Erfreute Zeit im neuen Bunde. A large instrumental ensemble add to the grand, majestic sweep of this festive opening movement. The opening of chords before the motor commences makes the theme perpetually identifiable and is a particularly notable feature of the movement. F Major
  2. Aria (Bass): Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener in. "A parallel to the second movement is scarcely to be found within Bach's entire corpus of cantatas"1. The aria is interrupted partway through by recitative. B Major
  3. Aria (Tenor): Eile, Herz, voll Freudigkeit. The triplets constantly running in the obbligato solo violin part give this movement a dance feel. One can here benefit from comparison with the "Laudamus te" from the Mass in b minor, BWV 232. F Major
  4. Recitativo (Alto): Ja, merkt dein Glaube noch viel Finsternis. Secco recitative. d minor-aminor
  5. Choral: Er ist das Heil und selif Licht. A plain chorale setting. d minor
