Description

Christian Mondrup, the caretaker of the Werner Icking Music Archive, contacted IMSLP in August 2011 with a proposal to merge WIMA's entire collection of files into IMSLP in order to remove the dependence on the site from Mondrup himself. After more than two weeks of discussions, an agreement to proceed was finally reached.

File Types

The files on WIMA fall into three groups:

  • PDF files - These can be uploaded directly onto IMSLP at the present time, see uploading scores to IMSLP
  • Audio files: computer-generated files (MIDI or mp3) and human performances can be uploaded directly onto IMSLP, see uploading audio files to IMSLP
  • Source files - Can be uploaded to IMSLP only archived in ZIP format. Any loose source files will be removed.

Permissions

Since every file on WIMA is either a new edition, a new arrangement, or an entirely new composition, they all require their authors' permission to be posted on IMSLP. A list of WIMA contributors who have given consent to have their files transferred to IMSLP can be found here (accessible only to project members). When uploading from WIMA, be absolutely sure to use the license that the contributor has specified.

Uploading

  • Upload files observing the basic instructions found at How to Submit a Score.
  • In step 4 outlined on that page, in the dropdown menu labeled 'Source' that comes up when you click 'Add Score' or 'Add Recording', select the option 'WIMA'.
On the next page that comes up, copy and paste the full, unabridged URL for each file you want to transfer after the 'wima://' text found in each 'File' field. If you experience technical difficulties, try inputting only the portion of the URL starting with 'scores'. Note that this process is the same for all types of files.
  • Please upload systematically by contributor, not by composer, instrumentation, period, or any other method of sorting. (This is to preserve maximum organization.)
  • List contributors you plan to upload at IMSLP:WIMA/Queue.
  • When you create a new page for a WIMA contributor, edit the page to include the line |WIMA=Yes before the end brackets. This will add the person to the category WIMA contributors. This should not be done for the composers of works merely edited or arranged by WIMA contributors - only for the editors and arrangers themselves. (The exception is composers who have uploaded their own works to WIMA.)
  • When every file contributed by a person (including source and audio files) has been uploaded to IMSLP, please record the person's name in the 'Completed Contributors' section at the bottom of this page.
  • See the IMSLP guidelines for file descriptions

Files Already on IMSLP

Some files from WIMA were transferred to IMSLP before this merge began. This may be because of someone contributing simultaneously to WIMA and IMSLP, or granting permission for their editions to appear on other sites. Whatever the case, please mark WIMA files already on IMSLP with the {{WIMAProject}} template by editing the page (click the 'edit' tab at the top of the screen) and inserting that text into the 'Misc. Notes' field in the appropriate file entry (be sure to choose the correct one). This may be done for both PDF and audio files.

Templates

  • {{WIMAProject}} - Automatically put into the Misc. Notes field for all files uploaded. Puts page into Category:WIMA files
    • First optional parameter, if extant, puts page into Category:WIMA duplicate files
    • Second optional parameter, if extant, marks files as a member of the specified collection (input e.g. {{WIMAProject||Michelle Bernard collection}}) and puts it into the appropriate category.
  • {{LinkEd|FirstName|LastName}} - Use in the Editor field for editions of older works (PDF files only)
  • {{LinkArr|FirstName|LastName}} - Use in the Arranger field (needs to be added) for arrangements of older works (PDF files only). See the style guide for details on creating the proper heading structure. IMSLP admins will be present to help out
