History
Music publishing firm founded by Joseph Meissonnier (1790–1855) that operated in Paris from 1821 until acquired by E. Gérard et Cie. in 1860. Meissonnier was also a guitarist and composer and the younger brother of Antoine Meissonnier (1783–1857). Antoine operated the music publishing firm A. Meissonnier from ca.1812 until his retirement in 1842 at which time the firm changed its name to reflect Meissonnier's partner--Heugel. Joseph Meissonnier possibly acquired the catalog of the Parisian publisher Bernard Latte after 1855. See: Ricci's La prigione di Edimburgo and Soubre's Les Bleuets.

Meissonnier's plate numbers appear to have been issued in a fairly regular chronological fashion. Dates in parentheses are estimated.

- C.M. #### (ca.?–ca.1860) — C.M. probably stood for Compe Musicale or Compagnie Musicale that appears on certain Meissonnier title pages. E. Gérard et Cie. continued to use the same plate prefix after acquiring the firm so many works listed as reprints are most likely original engravings by Gérard.
