Commentary on the movements

  1. [Chorale]: Meinem Jesum laß ich nicht. Concertante oboe leads the instrumental ensemble while the chorus sings the chorale in a relatively homophonic texture.
  2. Recitativo (Tenor): Solange sich ein Tropfen Blut. Secco recitative.
  3. Aria (Tenor): Und wenn der harte Todesschlag. The strings are practically "a realized continuo accompaniment"1; obbligato oboe d'amore takes the lead again.
  4. Recitativo (Bass): Doch ach! Secco recitative.
  5. Aria Duetto (Soprano, Alto): Entziehe dich eilends, mein Herze, der Welt. Always following one another in canon, the voices dance around a clear-cut, attractive melody and dance-like movement.
  6. Choral: Jesum laß ich nicht von mir. A plain chorale setting.
