History

O Malho was a weekly Brazilian comical magazine published in Rio de Janeiro, but with national circulation from 1902 to 1952. The periodical was created by Crispim do Amaral.

The first sheet music published were printed by Fertin, Morand & Cia. Later O Malho published works engraved by Luiz Thaddeu, until his death in 1914. The magazine received musical submissions of dance music for piano from all over the country until 1920, when it started to publish the international repertoire performed by two popular orchestras of Rio de Janeiro, Orchestra Andreozzi e Orchestra Pickmann (mostly american dance music and argentinian tango).

The Maestro B. Moll (possibly a pseudonym for Homero de Sá Barreto, according to Maria Alice Volpe) was the head of "Seção Musical", coordinating two musical contests in 1916 and 1919.

During World War I, the magazine published music related to the european countries.
